This red circa-1915 Sterling Model B3, 4 cylinder 20-35 HP Serial # 921 fresh water inboard boat motor is a very complete unit ready or restoration. The motor came from Valier, north of Great Falls, Montana. It was used originally in a large boat that was on Lake Francis, near Valier. The previous owner was somewhat of a mechanic and he worked on it many years ago. He said he had it turning over but it is stuck now. All of the loose parts that are off the motor including the large 18" 3 bladed bronze propeller are included. The distributor and rotor are in excellent condition. The carburetor and bronze fuel pump are complete. The water pump is there (shown on the right rear side of the engine behind the distributor). The starter is there and may have been a retrofit. It mounts to the left front crankcase hand hole cover. The bronze front starter bracket has the bottom half broken off, but it is included. The starter mounts to this pair of brackets using two bronze straps. The special early rectangular aluminum starter switch with brass engagement pedal is all there. The generator is missing. It mounted to the top of the starter with special clamping bracket. The starter pinion engages the flywheel ring gear. The generator is driven from the left cam shaft with the special chain. The intake manifold is made of brass and has several dents. The water cooled cast iron exhaust manifold and water lines are all there. The prop shaft coupling is there. The brass master control quadrant and spark and throttle levers are all there. There is a cast aluminum lever. The long vertical lever on the left side of the aluminum transmission is used to engage and dis-engage the clutch. The top of the transmission was removed and it is full of grease and looks to be in good order. The fuel tank with the brass filler cap is all there. The eight valve springs are all there. The 18" diameter 3 bladed bronze propeller is included. One blade on the propeller has been broken at some time and brazed back together. This is a must-have motor for anybody restoring an early motor launch boat. Please call (406) 318-0270 for details about this restorable classic project boat motor.
