This very nice charcoal grey metallic 1968 Mercury Cougar XR-7 two door hardtop is a drive-anywhere car with a rebuilt 289 CID 2 barrel V-8 motor out of a 1966 Mustang. The car has power steering and power brakes. The vinyl top was removed and the car was repainted a about 20 years years ago. The paint is peeling in the center of the hood wher a small area was poorly repaired. The paint is faded and the car needs a new paint job. The body is very straight and solid. There are no rust areas. It has a new windshield. The tail light sequencers and hide-away headlight motors are rebuilt. It has rallye wheels and good GT Qualifier tires. The deck trim is off the car but in good condition. The white interior is all there except 1987 Mercury Topaz bucket seats have been installed. (They use the same brackets so nothing was modified.) The dash pad needs to be replaced. The dash is all there except the radio is missing. The headliner is new. The car needs a new interior with original seats to be nice. There is a replacement console insert not installed. The 289 CID V-8 motor was rebuilt about 16 years ago and has about 20,000 miles on it. It has dual exhaust. The C-4 automatic transmission was rebuilt with the motor and it has a Stage 3 Transgo shifter. The radiator and brake vacuum booster were replaced when the motor was rebuilt. This car belongs to a friend who is a professional vehicle mechanic. He has owned it for 20 years and it has always been garaged.
