Desert Classics...1928 Ford Model AA Truck with Warford Transmission
This 1928 Ford Model AA truck has a very scarce Warford 3 speed auxiliary transmission. The truck comes with a good, solid cab. The cab has some typical rust in the lower cowl sides and in the right rear cab corner. The floor is solid. The running boards are bent. The wire wheels are in good rebuildable condition. The suspension and steering are all there. The stock October, 1928 motor and power train are all there. It is rare to find an AA truck from this era with the original motor. The Warford auxiliary 3 speed manual transmission is all there. Most of the Ford AA trucks in 1928 and 1929 came from the factory with the optional two speed foot-shifted transmission located behind the regular Model A car 3 speed transmission. The auxiliary "Dual High" transmission as Ford called it had a direct speed as well as a lower or "underdrive" speed for heavy loads. The dealer-installed Warford transmission had 3 speeds which included direct and "under drive" and an "overdrive" speed as well. This let the empty truck travel easily at 40 mph or so instead of 25-30 mph which was top speed for the standard Ford setup. These Warford auxiliary transmissions are very scarce and usually sell for around $1,000 or more if you can find one.
